In Fu Wenjun’s solo exhibition: The Old Summer Palace Moves 1,400 kmSouthward，there is a special work in the hall of Please Join us in the Garden. This work involves one mahjong table and on those mahjong tiles there carved letter symbols of the garden. The artist and Chen Mingjie (Director of Yuanmingyuan,Deputy Secretary-General of Yuanmingyuan Institute)did a performance art with this mahjong table. Mahjong as an entertainment has a long history inChina. When people are playing mahjong, tiles need to be constantly shuffle. Fu borrowed this concept of shuffling to interpret his art performance. In this way, the transportation of these cultural relics of stones from Yuanmingyuan toShanghaifor exhibition stands for an act of shuffling.

　　The artist and the director of museum reshuffling the mahjong tiles respectively carved with the Chinese characters “yuan”, “ming”, and “yuan”in its essence is an act of performance art. It is a metaphor for the redistribution and reintegration of the economic, political and cultural power in the world. Photographer Fu Wenjun fromChongqingexpress his own understanding of history in such a special way. On the one hand, it will enrich the ecological environment of art in Chongqing.On the other hand, the exhibition of works in such a site of dense cultural atmosphere represents an initiative endeavor to spread interest in modern art.
